Committee Descriptions
Membership Committee Leads efforts to recruit, maintain and serve membership. Provides outreach to membership. Recommends nominations for APA Distinguished Fellowship.
Public Affairs Supports, promotes and educates the public about mental illness and psychiatry. Provides experts for press, interviews and other professional groups.
Community Mental Health Represents KPMA in all matters pertaining to community mental health and is responsible for the liaison with other physicians in these matters.
Residents, Members in Training, ECP Committee Provides communication between KPMA and its members who are in the early stages of their psychiatric careers. The committee helps to identify and represent the interest of these psychiatrists and seeks to enhance their experiences within KPMA and promote career development.
Ethics Committee Investigates and reports to KPMA on charges of unethical or improper personal or professional conduct of any member.

Private Practice Committee Represents the needs of private practice psychiatrists.
Legislative Committee Studies and reports to KPMA any contemplated, pending or existing legislative matters; governmental regulatory issues, rules and regulations, and judicial decisions, which are pertinent to mental health and to the practice of psychiatry. Makes recommendations to KPMA on positions to be taken on such matters, and with consent of KPMA, represents the association before such governmental bodies.
Disaster Preparedness Committee Works towards the KPMA’s strategic goals of advocating for patients, supporting education, training and career development in the area of disaster psychiatry, and enhancing the scientific basis of psychiatric care for the victims of disaster.
Child and Adolescent Committee Keeps KPMA informed on all child and adolescent issues and makes recommendations for appropriate action.
Diversity Committee Encourages and recruits minorities in psychiatry training programs and minorities who are not members of KPMA to become involved in the Association committees. Informs KPMA of new developments and makes recommendations regarding issues related to minorities. Develops methods to promote maximum participation in the association.
Committee on Women Identify ways to encourage and maintain the active participation and advancement of women in KPMA and psychiatry.
