It's a distinct and rare honor to be asked to provide expert testimony which is threaded into an article with one of the countries most respected publication, the New York Times. Dr. Rian Kabir, a resident with the University of Louisville and member of the APA Committee on Mental Health Information Technology has achieved just that as a PGY-4.

The utilization of OpenAI, and more specifically chatboxes like ChatGPT, are being used more and more frequently.  The concerns of relying on chatboxes are varied however this article illustrates the impact on mental health. These tools are used to help solve problems by offering "detailed, personalized answers" however, "they also offer validation on demand — an ability to feel seen, understood and accepted instantly."
