“Alzheimer’s Disease Across Populations: Gaps and Opportunities in Research”

Webinar

A special APA Looking Beyond limited webinar series focused on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) across populations. Most research on ADRD has been conducted with non-Hispanic white individuals (Galvin, 2024). As a result, the generalizability of ADRD research results is limited across populations (Mindt et al., 2022). This lack of representation in research, coupled with social determinants of health, plays a role in ADRD health disparities. Addressing systemic barriers to involve underrepresented groups in research is a crucial step to improve ADRD treatment and outcomes (Assfaw et al., 2025).

In this webinar, expert panelists will discuss the factors limiting diverse representation in research and the impacts it has on ADRD care across populations.

Learning Objectives: -Describe known ADRD health disparities -Understand factors limiting diverse representation in ADRD research
-Explain how research gaps impact ADRD patient care across populations
-Identify strategies to increase diverse research representation
-Summarize opportunities for further research

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the American Psychiatric Association (APA).
