08/21/2026Kentucky Celebrate Advocacy WinsPrior to COVID-19, the Kentucky Psychiatric Medical Association (KPMA) hosted an event to educate psychiatrists and other stakeholders about CoCM. The event sparked a lot of interest, which led KPMA’s executive director, Miranda Van Winkle, M.B.A., to approach a lawmaker who is a long-time supporter of mental health about introducing the bill. Once the pandemic struck, a host of other urgent issues took priority, but in this year’s session, KPMA felt there was finally a good chance of getting the CoCM legislation over the finish line. |
08/06/2026Adult Antipsychotic Monitoring for Behavioral Health Inpatient ProvidersA Federal Requirement with Direct Clinical Impact Section 203 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 establishes federal requirements for Drug Utilization Review (DUR) to assess the appropriate use, monitoring, and reassessment of antipsychotic medications across Medicaid care settings, including inpatient behavioral health (3). This mandate is operationalized through Drug Utilization Review (DUR), which evaluates whether antipsychotic therapy is: • Clinically appropriate • Adequately monitored • Reassessed over time (3) In the inpatient setting, antipsychotics are frequently initiated, restarted, or escalated during acute stabilization, making hospitalization a key starting point for ongoing antipsychotic therapy. |
